Sanctions significantly affect international and national actors, including political, financial, and industrial sectors, with notable impacts on the Swiss banking sector. This course provides an in-depth understanding of various sanctions, covering their nature, types, target groups, and legal frameworks:

  • Nature of sanctions: The different forms of sanctions, including diplomatic, military, economic, and other restrictions like flight and communication bans.

  • Types of sanctions: Key categories such as embargos, blacklists, and smart sanctions aimed at specific individuals or entities.

Additionally, participants will explore how Swiss banks are impacted by sanctions issued by key entities, including:

  • United Nations: Measures to maintain international peace and security, impacting member states’ legal frameworks and financial institutions.

  • European Union: Overview of EU sanctions and their implications for international trade and finance.

  • United States: Complex regulations enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), including asset freezes and transaction prohibitions.

  • Switzerland: Compliance with Swiss sanctions regulations overseen by FINMA, including risks of non-compliance like imprisonment, fines, and bans on financial professions.

The e-Learning takes approximately 45 minutes to complete and concludes with a final assessment to validate participants’ learning progress. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate.
